History
Virgin Mobile Australia, also known as VMA, was established in October of 2002 as a mobile phone company. Based in Sydney, it first started as a joint venture between Optus and Virgin Mobile UK. Virgin Mobile UK used to handle customer services, brand development, and billing operations, while Optus was in-charge of the network infrastructure.
Virgin Mobile UK increased its shares in 2002, as VMA later enjoyed the patronage of up to 300,000 customers in 2005. However, Optus decided to buy out all the shares in 2006, making VMA a fully-operated mobile phone company by Optus. Despite the new business ownership, VMA still operates under the Virgin brand as part of the licensing agreement. As a subsidiary, Virgin Mobile Australia also tied up with SIMplus. Today, Virgin Mobile Australia continues to provide service to more than 800,000 customers.
New Developments
With the help of intensive marketing strategies and advertising campaigns, VMA continues to set a solid standing in the local market. As an international brand, it has a strong back-up for product and service development. Aside from its award-winning campaigns, Virgin Mobile Australia also holds corporate sponsorships. The company is a festival sponsor and supporter of various community organizations.

The 3G service is also now available for web browsing, email access, and other types of data services. Through the Optus 3G network, Virgin Broadband was introduced in August of 2007 as another reliable service.
