From the rather remote yet unbelievably rich country of Finland comes the world's most favorite and most respected brand of mobile phones. Introducing Nokia Corporation, a telecommunications company which has the vision and mission of connecting people not only in Finland but from the rest of the world. As a matter of fact, not only has it been a hit in Europe, Asia, in the United States, or in Africa, but in the land down under, Australia, as well.
How Nokia Corporation Came About
Nokia Corporation began as a company that mills wood pulp in Tampere, Finland in the year 1865. Knut Fredrik Idestam is the founder of this company, which was first established on the coast of the falls of Tammerkoski just adjacent the river of Nokianvirta, where Nokia is soon to get its name from.
Then, come the advent of the twentieth century, a company named Finnish Rubber Works started utilising Nokia as its company name. To further up its forces, it formed a merger with two other companies, Finnish Cable Works and the wood mills of Nokia. This merger brought forth the company that we now know of as Nokia Corporation. In its early days, Nokia Corporation does not only produce communications devices such as cables, computers, and TV sets. It also manufactures paper products, footwear like the popular Wellington boots, electricity generators, and dozens of electronic equipment.
It was only in the 1960's when Nokia Corporation started taking its career in the mobile telecommunications industry really seriously. It all started when the communications cables department of the company came up with an electronics section. This section was later formed into yet another department, which was responsible for all the Nokia mobile phones we see to this date.
Nokia Mobile Invasion
The first thing that Nokia Corporation did in the mobile telecommunications industry is to provide support for network services to various commercial mobile communications companies as well as the armed forces. Then, in the 70's up to the 80's decades, Nokia Corporation formed a merger with Salora Oy, which led to the creation of Mobira Oy, then Nokia-Mobira Oy. Come the 90's, this name was changed to the simpler yet more remarkable name of Nokia Mobile Phones.
Nokia Mobile Phones Invades Australia
The business interests of Nokia Corporation started spreading to the land down-under, Australia, in the year 1985. Just as how Nokia Mobile Phones started off in Finland and in the world, the company began as a support team for those mobile telecommunications companies that need support for their network infrastructure. It was only in the year 1993 when Nokia started marketing mobile phones in the country. At the advent of the new millenium, the company further expanded its services to the Australian population with its Internet communications offerings.
