To some people, globalisation is a threat, but to some, it is tremendously beneficial. How about in Australia? How NEC Australia Came About

NEC Corporation first built its office in the land down-under in the year 1969. But the roots of the mother company of NEC Australia can be traced to as far back as the year 1899. It was then that the Nippon Electric Company was conceived. From this year onwards up to the year 1949, the Nippon Electric Company grew so fast and has already established other offices outside the country. By 1949, it was already the first company ever in Japan to trade using foreign currency.

A year after up to 1969, the company decided to venture into the industry of computers. It was also during this period that NEC built its first office in Australia. By then, it only has five workers.

In the period of 1980 to 1989, the Nippon Electric Company changed its name to NEC Corporation. It was also during this period that the company came up with its first ever personal computer. Come the new decade of the 90's, NEC Corporation came up with the NEC p5 mobile phone, which, during that time, was the tiniest mobile phone ever created. Then, another major breakthrough for the company came when it pioneered i-Mode mobile phones for Australian telecommunications giant Telstra Corporation at the advent of the new millenium. Now, due to its cutting edge achievements, NEC Australia is widely acknowledged as a leader in mobile communications in the country.
